Who is it suitable for?
Considered for people bothered by a deepening nasolabial fold. The cause is often not the fold itself but volume loss in the mid-face — on examination, supporting the mid-face may turn out to be more appropriate than filling the line directly.
How does it work?
Hyaluronic acid is a water-binding molecule the skin already contains. Placed beneath the fold, it supports the tissue upward with the aim of softening the shadow the line casts. The effect is not permanent; the body breaks the product down over time with its own enzymes.
How is it performed?
The area is cleansed and a topical anaesthetic is applied. The product is placed at depth with a needle or cannula; the amount and the layer are decided from what the examination shows. The area is then gently shaped.
What to watch for afterwards
For the first 24 hours the area is not pressed, massaged or covered with make-up. Heat, saunas and heavy exercise are postponed for a few days. Mild swelling, redness and bruising are expected findings and settle on their own.
This treatment is not for everyone
Who should not have it?
Not performed during pregnancy or breastfeeding, where there is active skin infection or a cold sore outbreak, with a known allergy to hyaluronic acid products, or in uncontrolled autoimmune disease. This area carries vascular risk and should only be treated by a doctor who knows the anatomy.
Frequently asked
About this treatment
How long does it last?
Hyaluronic acid fillers are not permanent; the body breaks the product down over time with its own enzymes. How long depends on the product, on how mobile the area is, and on your metabolism. When a repeat may be needed is discussed at your review.
Can it be reversed if I dislike it?
Hyaluronic acid based fillers can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase. That makes the treatment reversible, which is a meaningful safety difference compared with permanent filler materials.
Will the line disappear completely?
The aim is to soften the shadow the line casts, not to erase it. The nasolabial fold is a natural feature of the face and it is normal for it to deepen when you smile; a completely flattened mid-face does not read as natural. Setting the expectation here largely decides how satisfying the result feels.
Why might filling the cheekbone be suggested instead of the line itself?
Because what deepens the fold is often not the area itself but volume lost higher in the mid-face. Support given from above softens the fold on its own. Placing product into the line would treat the consequence rather than the cause.
How long do swelling and bruising last?
Mild swelling and redness in the first days are expected findings. If bruising appears, it fades through a change of colour. The result should be judged once the swelling has fully settled, not in the first days.
Why is extra care said to be needed in this area?
The side of the nose is one of the most vascularly sensitive regions of the face. Product placed in the wrong layer can cause serious complications. For that reason the treatment should be carried out by a doctor familiar with the anatomy, using an appropriate technique.
What should I do before the appointment?
Medicines and supplements that thin the blood — aspirin, ibuprofen-type painkillers, vitamin E, omega-3 — make bruising more likely. Tell us before your appointment if you take any; whether and when to pause them is your doctor's decision. Never stop a prescribed medicine on your own. If you have a history of cold sores, say so: an injection can trigger one.
Does it hurt? Is anaesthetic used?
Very fine needles are used, and a topical anaesthetic cream is applied beforehand where it helps. Most people describe a mild sting. Pain thresholds differ, so if you are uncomfortable during the procedure just say so — it can be paused and more can be done.
Can it be done during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Aesthetic injections are not advised during pregnancy or breastfeeding. There is not enough safety data for these periods, so they are avoided. Tell us beforehand if you are or might be pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
Who performs the treatment?
The assessment, the planning and the injection are all carried out by Dr. Burak Gümüşçü. What will be done, why, and what the alternatives are is explained before anything begins.
Which products are used?
Only licensed, single-use, sterile products. If you would like to know the name and contents of the product being used, that is shared at the consultation, and the packaging is opened in front of you.
Why is there no price on the site?
Türkiye's health advertising rules prohibit clinics from publishing prices or promotional offers. Beyond that, the amount used and the number of sessions vary from person to person, so a single figure would be misleading. Your own figure is given directly after the consultation.
Can another treatment be done in the same session?
Some treatments can be planned together in one session; others need to be spaced apart. That is decided after the face is assessed as a whole — the aim is to get the order right, not to add procedures.
