Hyperhidrosis Treatment

Botulinum toxin used to temporarily reduce the nerve signal reaching the sweat glands in excessive sweating.

Who is it suitable for?

Considered for people whose palm sweating affects daily life, work or social contact. This is not a cosmetic procedure but treatment for a medical complaint. The same approach is used for the underarms and the soles of the feet.

How does it work?

Botulinum toxin temporarily blocks transmission at the nerve ending that stimulates the sweat gland. The gland is not removed; only its stimulation is reduced. The effect is temporary and wears off over time.

How is it performed?

The palm is a sensitive area, so cooling or a topical anaesthetic is used for comfort. The product is delivered through many superficial points in a grid across the area. The effect settles over days rather than immediately.

What to watch for afterwards

Avoid rubbing the hands or heavy manual work on the day of treatment. A slight temporary reduction in grip strength can be felt. It takes a few days for the effect to settle fully, and the result is not judged before then.

This treatment is not for everyone

Who should not have it?

Not performed during pregnancy or breastfeeding, in neuromuscular conditions such as myasthenia gravis, where there is infection in the treatment area, or with a known allergy to the components. Because a systemic cause such as thyroid disease can underlie sweating, sudden-onset sweating or sweating that continues at night is assessed first.

Frequently asked

About this treatment

When does the effect start?

The effect is not immediate; the reduction in sweating settles over days. For that reason the result should not be judged straight after treatment.

How long does the effect last?

It is not permanent. The sweat gland is not removed — only its stimulation is temporarily reduced — and it returns to its previous state over time. Timing for a repeat is discussed at your review.

Will the sweating move somewhere else?

While sweating falls in the treated area, some people describe an increase elsewhere on the body. It is usually not troublesome, but if you do experience it, raise it at your review.

Will my grip get weaker?

A temporary, mild reduction in grip strength in the palm can be felt, because the small muscles of the hand sit in the same area. The effect is temporary; if your work depends on manual dexterity, it matters that you mention it beforehand.

Is it also done for the underarms and the soles of the feet?

Yes, the same approach is used for those areas. Which area to prioritise and how to plan the treatment are assessed at examination.

Is the palm more sensitive than other areas?

Yes — the palm is rich in nerve endings and the treatment can be more uncomfortable there than elsewhere. Cooling or a topical anaesthetic is therefore used beforehand for comfort.

What should I do before the appointment?

Medicines and supplements that thin the blood — aspirin, ibuprofen-type painkillers, vitamin E, omega-3 — make bruising more likely. Tell us before your appointment if you take any; whether and when to pause them is your doctor's decision. Never stop a prescribed medicine on your own. If you have a history of cold sores, say so: an injection can trigger one.

Does it hurt? Is anaesthetic used?

Very fine needles are used, and a topical anaesthetic cream is applied beforehand where it helps. Most people describe a mild sting. Pain thresholds differ, so if you are uncomfortable during the procedure just say so — it can be paused and more can be done.

Can it be done during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Aesthetic injections are not advised during pregnancy or breastfeeding. There is not enough safety data for these periods, so they are avoided. Tell us beforehand if you are or might be pregnant, or are breastfeeding.

Who performs the treatment?

The assessment, the planning and the injection are all carried out by Dr. Burak Gümüşçü. What will be done, why, and what the alternatives are is explained before anything begins.

Which products are used?

Only licensed, single-use, sterile products. If you would like to know the name and contents of the product being used, that is shared at the consultation, and the packaging is opened in front of you.

Why is there no price on the site?

Türkiye's health advertising rules prohibit clinics from publishing prices or promotional offers. Beyond that, the amount used and the number of sessions vary from person to person, so a single figure would be misleading. Your own figure is given directly after the consultation.

Can another treatment be done in the same session?

Some treatments can be planned together in one session; others need to be spaced apart. That is decided after the face is assessed as a whole — the aim is to get the order right, not to add procedures.
