Who is it suitable for?
Considered for people who describe thinning hair, diffuse shedding or a weakening scalp, and whose follicles are still present. It is not a way to bring hair back where the follicle is gone; if that is the picture, the appropriate options are discussed instead.
How does it work?
Exosomes are very small vesicles cells release to signal to one another. Delivered into the scalp, they are thought to support cell signalling and microcirculation around the follicle. The evidence in this area is still developing and results vary from person to person.
How is it performed?
The scalp is cleansed and a topical anaesthetic is applied if needed. The preparation is delivered into the superficial layer of the scalp with fine needles, over the areas where shedding is present. The plan and the interval between applications are set after examination.
What to watch for afterwards
Hair is not washed on the day of treatment; normal care resumes the next day. Tenderness and mild redness of the scalp are common in the first days. Pools, saunas and heavy sweating are postponed briefly.
This treatment is not for everyone
Who should not have it?
Not performed during pregnancy or breastfeeding, where there is active scalp infection or an open wound, in uncontrolled bleeding disorders, or during active cancer treatment. If a thyroid problem or iron deficiency underlies the shedding, that is addressed first.
Frequently asked
About this treatment
Is exosome hair therapy an alternative to a hair transplant?
No — the two solve different problems. A transplant moves follicles from one area to a place where the follicle is gone. Exosome treatment aims to support follicles that are still there but weakened. It will not grow hair where no follicle remains.
When do results start to show?
The hair cycle is slow, so nothing changes overnight; people usually describe a reduction in shedding first and a change in hair calibre later, over a period of months. How long this takes varies with the person and with what is causing the shedding.
Is the effect permanent?
It is not. As long as whatever drives the shedding is still present, the process continues, so treatment is planned as ongoing care rather than a cure. When to repeat is discussed at your review appointment.
How does it differ from hair mesotherapy and PRP?
All three are injected into the scalp, but what is injected differs: mesotherapy uses a vitamin and mineral preparation, PRP uses platelet-rich plasma separated from your own blood, and exosome treatment uses cell-derived vesicles. Which one suits you depends on the picture.
I have had a hair transplant — can this be applied?
Whether it can be applied after a transplant depends on how long ago the surgery was and on the state of the scalp. Your transplant surgeon's advice is taken into account; the decision follows examination.
When can I colour my hair afterwards?
Hair dye and chemical processing are postponed briefly, because there are open micro-entry points in the scalp after treatment. You will be told when it is safe to colour at the end of the session.
What should I do before the appointment?
Medicines and supplements that thin the blood — aspirin, ibuprofen-type painkillers, vitamin E, omega-3 — make bruising more likely. Tell us before your appointment if you take any; whether and when to pause them is your doctor's decision. Never stop a prescribed medicine on your own. If you have a history of cold sores, say so: an injection can trigger one.
Does it hurt? Is anaesthetic used?
Very fine needles are used, and a topical anaesthetic cream is applied beforehand where it helps. Most people describe a mild sting. Pain thresholds differ, so if you are uncomfortable during the procedure just say so — it can be paused and more can be done.
Can it be done during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Aesthetic injections are not advised during pregnancy or breastfeeding. There is not enough safety data for these periods, so they are avoided. Tell us beforehand if you are or might be pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
Who performs the treatment?
The assessment, the planning and the injection are all carried out by Dr. Burak Gümüşçü. What will be done, why, and what the alternatives are is explained before anything begins.
Which products are used?
Only licensed, single-use, sterile products. If you would like to know the name and contents of the product being used, that is shared at the consultation, and the packaging is opened in front of you.
Why is there no price on the site?
Türkiye's health advertising rules prohibit clinics from publishing prices or promotional offers. Beyond that, the amount used and the number of sessions vary from person to person, so a single figure would be misleading. Your own figure is given directly after the consultation.
Can another treatment be done in the same session?
Some treatments can be planned together in one session; others need to be spaced apart. That is decided after the face is assessed as a whole — the aim is to get the order right, not to add procedures.
