Skin Quality

Dermapen (Microneedling)

Controlled micro-channels made in the skin to prompt the tissue's own repair process.

Who is it suitable for?

Considered for people describing acne scarring, enlarged pores, fine lines and uneven skin surface. Where acne is active and inflamed, the acne itself is treated first and scar work is left until later.

How does it work?

The device makes many very fine channels in the skin. That controlled micro-injury prompts the tissue's own repair and collagen production. The result comes from the skin's own response rather than anything added to it, which is why it appears over weeks.

How is it performed?

The skin is cleansed and a topical anaesthetic is applied and left to take effect. The device is passed over the area at a depth set for that region. A soothing product is applied afterwards.

What to watch for afterwards

No make-up for the first 24 hours, and the skin is cared for only with the products your doctor recommends. Redness and a feeling of heat are expected findings. Retinol, acid-based products and peels are paused for a period; sunscreen is not optional during this time.

This treatment is not for everyone

Who should not have it?

Not performed during pregnancy or breastfeeding, where there is active infection, a cold sore outbreak or inflamed acne in the area, in people who form keloid scars, after recent isotretinoin use, or in an uncontrolled bleeding disorder.

Frequently asked

About this treatment

When do results show?

The result comes from the skin's own repair response rather than anything added to it, so the change reads over weeks rather than immediately. How the skin looks in the first days is not an indication of the result.

How many sessions will I need?

Giving a single number would not be honest. The number of sessions is planned around the depth of the scarring, how the skin responds, and the goal. An approach that quotes a number before examining you is not building a plan for you.

Will it erase acne scars completely?

The aim is to reduce surface irregularity, not to erase scars. The type of scar decides the outcome: shallow, broad scars respond better, while deep, sharply defined scars have a limit. That distinction is made at examination.

How many days does the redness last?

Redness and a feeling of heat are expected findings; how long they last depends on the depth used and on your skin. If you have social plans, it is sensible not to leave the treatment to the last moment.

Can it be done in summer?

It can, but the skin becomes more sensitive to sun afterwards and the risk of pigmentation rises. Sunscreen is not optional during this period, and if heavy sun exposure is planned it may make more sense to postpone.

Is it the same as a home dermaroller?

It is not. In the clinic the needle depth is set for the area and the treatment is carried out under sterile conditions. Home devices offer neither depth control nor any guarantee of sterility, and they carry a risk of scarring and infection.

What should I do before the appointment?

Medicines and supplements that thin the blood — aspirin, ibuprofen-type painkillers, vitamin E, omega-3 — make bruising more likely. Tell us before your appointment if you take any; whether and when to pause them is your doctor's decision. Never stop a prescribed medicine on your own. If you have a history of cold sores, say so: an injection can trigger one.

Does it hurt? Is anaesthetic used?

Very fine needles are used, and a topical anaesthetic cream is applied beforehand where it helps. Most people describe a mild sting. Pain thresholds differ, so if you are uncomfortable during the procedure just say so — it can be paused and more can be done.

Can it be done during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Aesthetic injections are not advised during pregnancy or breastfeeding. There is not enough safety data for these periods, so they are avoided. Tell us beforehand if you are or might be pregnant, or are breastfeeding.

Who performs the treatment?

The assessment, the planning and the injection are all carried out by Dr. Burak Gümüşçü. What will be done, why, and what the alternatives are is explained before anything begins.

Which products are used?

Only licensed, single-use, sterile products. If you would like to know the name and contents of the product being used, that is shared at the consultation, and the packaging is opened in front of you.

Why is there no price on the site?

Türkiye's health advertising rules prohibit clinics from publishing prices or promotional offers. Beyond that, the amount used and the number of sessions vary from person to person, so a single figure would be misleading. Your own figure is given directly after the consultation.

Can another treatment be done in the same session?

Some treatments can be planned together in one session; others need to be spaced apart. That is decided after the face is assessed as a whole — the aim is to get the order right, not to add procedures.
