What causes hollow temples?
Changes in the upper-face contour: causes, assessment and safety.
The short answer
Temple hollowing can become more noticeable as temporal fat decreases with age, bone support changes, weight is lost quickly, or because of inherited facial structure. The transition between the eyebrow tail and cheekbone appears concave, and the face may look more angular or tired.
Filler may be considered in some people. However, the temple contains important vessels and nerves and requires particular care. Suitability, product, amount and injection plane should be decided only after a medical examination.
What does the assessment consider?
The doctor assesses whether the change affects both sides, eyebrow support, the cheekbone transition, skin quality and previous procedures. A new or pronounced one-sided change requires medical causes to be considered before aesthetic planning.
Main risks of temple filler
Common temporary effects include swelling, tenderness and bruising. Rare vascular occlusion can cause serious tissue damage and visual complications. Anatomical knowledge, appropriate products and complication management are therefore important.
